Why under 40? Sometimes older woman jump in after 40! I really like Tracey Reichow of Black Cat Vineyard. She fell in love with wine after working in investment banking. So even though she doesn't fit the age profile, she is still relatively new to winemaking. However, her wines have a definate old world style and maturity that can only come with wordly experience!
I'm right with you on this one. I don't get the age thing. What does it matter? I'm 57 and started making wines here in the Languedoc just two years ago. Does that make me useless? I don't feel it, but it'd be great not to be ignored in favour of the wonderful young women. I guess I might look worse in photos though.
