Wine 2.0

Name the top 10 hottest small "unknown" wine brands!

Ok, so everybody and their sister knows Silver Oak, Opus One and the other top brands out there. But who can come up with the next "unknown" brand about to take the wine world by storm?

We'll compile a list of entries and whittle it down to the top 10 leading up to Wine 2.0 New York on Sept 18th.

Let the name dropping begin!

I am not sure that these are so unknown, but I will give it a try:
Villa Creek
Kosta Browne
Linne Calado
Seasmoke
Brett - I'll mention a couple of my favorites that I have worked with at RadCru, all small, high-quality wine with great packaging, obviously not totally inclusive of everybody I know and like but some favorites...

1.Modus Operandi
2. Due Vigne
3. Spencer Roloson
4.Twisted Oak
5.Fantesca
6. Midsummer cellars
7. Medlock ames
8. Radog
9. Ramian
10.Joseph Family vineyards
Love Linne Calado, especially Sticks and Stones, Amnesia and Problem Child. Those are my favorites. Big fruit! Almost like drinking Smuckers jam right out of the bottle.
I'm with you on Twisted Oak, Cornelius. I would also say:

Layer Cake
Goulburn Terrace
Chateau d'Oupia (and others from the region)

Though I'd somewhat prefer that they stay small :-)
Loring single vineyard Pinot Noirs

Rocca family vineyards

Anderson's Conn Valley

Josef Leitz vineyards
I recently had Twisted Oak, I'd have to agree!
And, I encountered Seasmoke while I was in Colorado Springs- a somm recommended it- amazing!

And, believe it or not: "Bitch" Barossa Valley Grenache- one of our local wine vendors with Southern Wine and Spirits turned me onto it. Not to mention, it's quite the conversation piece when you take it to a dinner.

Winemaker Notes - The nose and palate are delicate mix of fruit characters; perfumed raspberries, peach, and poached quince. The palate extends to a juicy, fleshy texture with confectionary flavors of strawberries and cream and finishes with spicy, cloves, and nutmeg.

Perfect for summer to fall transition in hot Las Vegas.
wow, how big is southern wine and spirits? when i lived in florida, they were one of the restaurants top purveyors for wine.
Only the #1 largest distributor nationally...probably has 20% of the entire market.
Tercero (from Larry Schaefer, assistant winemaker for Fess Parker)
Kaena (from Mikael Sigouin, winemaker for Beckmen)
Ken Volk (former owner of Wild Horse)
Ethan (owned by Ethan Lindquist, son of Bob Lindquist of Qupe)
Blair Fox Cellars (Blair is the winemaker for Epiphany and Fess Parker)
Volcano Vineyards is about as unknown as they get, producing only 1200 cases per year. But our Volcano Vineyards 2005 Syrah won Best of Show at the National Women's Wine Competition this year. Yes, tooting my own horn, by golly. We are southern Oregon, the next big AVA. I also love Velocity, Spangler, and everyone should keep their eyes on Agate Ridge, who just hired winemaker Kiley Evans away from Abacela.
I also agree with Twisted Oak and Fantesca for sure. With Heidi Barrett as Fantesca's new winemaker, they're sure to take the world by storm! I recently experienced a few wines from a small time, up and coming producer in the Paso Robles Area, Stacked Stone Cellars. They are being distributed nationwide by Huston Premium Wines. The winemaker is Donald Thiessen and there are three wines in particular and they are simply heaven---Zinstone, which is a powerful fruit-bomb of a Zinfandel, The Quarry--an awesome Cabernet Sauvignon and The Gem, a Rhone-blend. I have never had anything like these wines and they are priced very reasonably (all are under $30). If you get a chance to try them, you'll be glad you did!
Great replies everybody! Another very cool new brand that is just hitting the scene is JAQK Cellars. Awesome package and design and the winemaker is Craig McClean. I am looking forward to getting my hands on a few bottles.
