Wine 2.0

Ok.... I do not do Champagne, it is just not my preferred taste.. but I come across two Bubbly's that blew my hair back - Beyerskloof - Sparkling Pinotage and Freixenet - Segura Viudas Brut Reserve - Cava from Spain.. awesome.. refreshing and smooth, not sharp at all..
So I guess my question is: What are your thoughts about this new up and coming Cava that is giving Champagne a run for its money?

Many people do not like Champagne. It may be because of its higher acidity, which explains why those same people enjoy sparkling wines such as Prosecco, which usually has a bit of sweetness. There are great Cavas out there, and Segura Viudas is one of them. However, taste and quality aside, the image that Champagne provides is something no other wine can match.

I've had Cavas that sell for $20-$30 and are as good if not better than Champagnes that sell for $50-$75. But these Cavas are a niche item and just do not sell well, at least in the US.

People are buying an image. Even many of the smaller producers in Champagne have a difficult time selling despite the extremely high quality of some of the. People want the Moets, the Veuve Clicquots, the Dom Perignons.

And sparkling red wine? That's a tough road.
You are right, it is all about the romance of Champagne.. however I will do my best to spread the word about this new and up coming Cava..... ;)
The (Pink) Sparkling was awesome, we paired it with oysters and marmalade.... check out the webisode on www.thecorkscrewdiary.tv.. Beyers can explain that much better....
If you ever get to try it, let me know...
