Wine 2.0

i recently bought my lady a nice decanter. i was interested to see her pour the wine back into the bottle at the end of the evening. is this standard procedure? someone told me the wine would turn vinegary if left in the decanter.

how long should you aerate?

thank you!

I would say if its a decanter with a top about a day, topless half the life. Too much air and the wine oxidizes and that's it you could make salad lol.

That depends on the wine. Some would be better after one day of aeration and some other would be die in few hours. In general, the wines that need more aeration are the younger, closed or reduced wines, wines of a strong structure with great acidity, natural wines often. You could give more areation puring the wine faster, harder or shaking the decanter. Those are not recommended for older wines nor wines with sediments, these wines should be poured gentlely. I think it's ok to protect the remaining wine pouring it back in the bottle.

But a good vinegar should not be despised :-)
thanks for the input!!
