Twitter Taste Live Online Wine Tasting to Celebrate 10th Anniversary of Open That Bottle Night

Organizers hope to break record for largest interactive online wine tasting ever held

ST. HELENA, Calif., Feb. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Twitter Taste Live, the premier forum for real-time wine tasting via the Web, has partnered with wine importer Wilson Daniels Ltd. to host an online wine tasting on the 10th anniversary of Open That Bottle Night on Saturday, February 28, 2009, at 8 p.m. EST. Those interested in participating are encouraged to visit http://www.twittertastelive.com to RSVP for the interactive wine tasting event.

An idea conceived in 2000 by respected wine writers Dorothy Gaiter and John Brecher of the Wall Street Journal, Open That Bottle Night (OTBN) encourages wine enthusiasts worldwide to open and share a special bottle of wine. Due to its popularity, OTBN became an annual celebration held in homes and restaurants nationwide on the last Saturday of February. The concept has since taken on a life of its own, with OTBN devotees creating their own Web site independent from Wall Street Journal http://www.openthatbottlenight.com where consumers can post pictures and stories from their OTBN parties.

Twitter Taste Live has added a new twist to the OTBN theme in honor of the 10th anniversary: exploration and discovery. Consumers will have the opportunity to open bottles of intriguing, lesser-known wines from four regions in Europe from tiny producers they may never have heard of before -- and share these discoveries at OTBN's first global, online forum. A live video stream at http://www.twittertastelive.com will allow OTBN revelers to follow bloggers and event hosts through the tasting and ask questions through the Web site's real-time Twitter feed. Tasters must have a Twitter account http://www.twitter.com in order to actively exchange questions and comments about the wines.

Twitter Taste Live (TTL) is a ground-breaking tasting format that utilizes the popular social networking tool Twitter to connect passionate consumers with people that share their passion. TTL began as a series of online wine tastings bringing the world's top winemakers, importers and bloggers directly to consumers all over the world. It is an open platform driven by the users and launched in September 2008 by Bin Ends, a wine retailer in Braintree, Mass. TTL tastings offer consumers who RSVP for the online tastings an opportunity to purchase the featured wines a few weeks prior to the event. Bin Ends processes and ships the wines to consumers' residences in states where legal. Bin Ends also recommends consumers visit http://www.vinquire.com to find retailers in their local areas who sell the featured wines. TTL expects its growing membership of 700 to double before OTBN.

TTL OTBN will be co-sponsored by OpenWine Consortium, a global wine industry association, featuring the world's premier online wine business network, on a mission to improve the world of wine. Four wines will be featured at the February 28 TTL tasting: Royal Tokaji Furmint, Tokaj, Hungary; Domaine Pierre Morey Aligote, Burgundy, France; Domaine Marc Kreydenweiss Perrieres, Costieres de Nimes, France; and Tenuta di Biserno Insolgio del Cinghiale, Toscana IGT; Italy.

Consumers are encouraged to host Open That Bottle Night parties in their homes with friends. Also, anyone with a Facebook account is encouraged to join the "Open That Bottle Night Revelers" group to post pictures and comments of their OTBN memories.
