I think it is way to soon to make a call. With the immense growth of DTC sales in the last two years and the recent judicial ruling of May 22, 2009, I am confident that once this mess is sorted out, DTC sales channels will emerge better organized and much better capitalized for a new successful run. There is too much at stake for the small and medium cap wineries to lose, for the demise of one poorly managed, atrociously financed company to bring down. It is like playing in a scramble and you are putting fourth. You get to see your 3 partners putt first and hopefully learn from their mistakes to sink the birdie putt. Patience will be key. I figure a new major player will emerge to take control. Watch what Amazon.com does in the coming weeks. It should be interesting.
John - I am confident too. This is a natural shake up that could have happened at any time. NVL had issues for a long time and I think this was sad but inevitable. Their business model did not work efficiently. Hopefully a new entity will replace them and start over with a clean slate.
