Prairie Berry Winery
This could be your dream job! We are increasing our production capacity from 20,000 to 50,000 cases per year and have an incredible opportunity for the right person! Prairie Berry Winery is an international award winning, family owned winery located in the beautiful Black Hills of western South Dakota. We are looking for an experienced, hands-on winemaker to join our growing wine making team and to champion our expanding grape wine production.
This position reports to the Director of Winemaking and performs all duties pertinent to the production and development of premium quality wines. Applicant should have a full understanding and experience in every aspect of winemaking, with hands-on experience in harvest/fermentation, filtering, production/blending, and bottling. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, harvest/crush operations, post-harvest wine management, cellar/facility maintenance, all bottling operations, oversight of in-house wine lab, management of cellar staff, budgetary accountability, and the ordering/inventory of winemaking supplies.
Our most important qualifications:
• Minimum 5 years experience as primary winemaker
• Proven ability to produce quality premium wines while maintaining the cost objectives of the winery
• Well developed leadership skills--including ability to supervise and direct staff; manage priorities and workflow; analyze and problem-solve and adapt to constantly changing priorities
• Experience with laboratory environment, equipment and safety procedures
• Knowledge of vineyard management
• Ability to interact with internal and external customers and to represent the winery in the professional community
Compensation is commensurate with experience.
