Wine 2.0

In "Back to Basics" http://thinkwinemarketing.wordpress.com/ John has laid out a near perfect business plan (in my opinion) but I truly wonder if any of the wineries (#1) even know it exists? and (#2) will they bother to act on the advice?

When wineries make a competition out of hiring (like an American Idol) can they really successful enter emerging media and find success after 6 months? I know something of successful corporate America and they always hired the person that tightly fit into the corporate environment and style. I would love to hear from someone at a winery for their views.

Yeah, it is a great tool but, if so many wineries are stuck in their own world that they feel they got all the advice in the world and any more would just be overkill. I find UC Davis is the wine makers play ground and the "American Idol" is well skewered because so many kids are trying the PCI courses too buffering really green experience and they they go out in the world saying they are oenephiles when they have really no clue about where the origins of grape growing are rooted in basic farming.

I guess holding our collective breath to see if wineries "grow up and start listening" is futile but, there is hope in a new crop of wine growers in the Central Coast areas and the collaboration is a good start. I hope.
There is never any good when people take shortcuts to learning. They do need to "get their hands dirty" to fully understand the process. Classroom learning can provide a theoretical knowledge but in a process as complex as many good wines it will require much more and going out into the world with an arrogant attitude is a great way to fall onto your face.

I wish you luck...sounds like you are one of the Central Coast growers.
