ITALIAN WINES - DOCG: Albana di Romagna
In 1987, Albana di Romagna became the 1st Italian white wine to be awarded a DOCG certificate.
The Albana vineyards stretch from Bologna almost as far as the sea and encroach slightly upon the provinces of Forlì, Ravenna and Cesena.
The wine comes in four varieties: dry, medium-sweet, sweet and raisened (Passito). All four, however, share the basic characteristics of a pale yellow colour tending to gold as the wine ages, a light aroma, and a warm and harmonic taste.
The alcohol content varies from 11.5° to as high as 15.5° for Passito which therefore makes a perfect dessert wine. The Dozza Imolese Wine Registry defines it as a "woodland and riviera" wine.
