My husband has a dream of living in South Africa, owning a vineyard and surfing the best waves :) I must say that South African wines are few and far between in our market here in Hawaii, however, I am very interested in knowing more about them. I can't remember what I have tried (vineyard wise), it has been quite some time, but I do remember it being red and very tasty!

Thanks for the message - it seems that your husband know quality! There are certainly some amazing surf sites on our coastline, and a lot of the areas where the surf is good - they have started planting vineyards - as far north as Plettenberg Bay, which is quite close to Jefferys Bay, which is considered one of the best surf spot, there they are planting the Champagne varieties, and making some very intersting wine. Walker Bay, closer to Cape Town, is well known as the best area for Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc. There is also the West Coast, which is the cold Atlantic Ocean, but great surf and a lot of Sauvignon Blanc is being planted there with unique characteristic. Your options would be endless - you just need to come over and see!
You might have tasted some South African Pinotage, which is our very own grape variety. Although there are some great Cabernet Sauvignons, Shiraz,Sauvingon Blancs and Chenin Blanc and and and..........
