I must say up front, yes I work there.
I like recent pinots from Kenneth Volk Vineyards in Santa Maria, CA: 05 Santa Maria Cuvee, light to medium body, subdubed fruit flavors, very food friendly, nice finish, even those who don't care for red wine will find something wonderful in this one; 05 Sierra Madre Vineyards, medium body, wonderful fruit flavors, great depth and finish, great after taste; 04 Garey Vineyard, one of the largest pinots I have ever had, its presence is nearly giant cab like, very dark, very smooth, and a finish and after taste that might last a week, or until you kill it with a starbucks. Ken has large number of pinots--in the barrel and in the bottle waiting to be relaeased. Prices run $26 to $48 retail, all of them run great to excellent. Ken started Wild Horse, near Paso Robles in the early 1980s, sold it in 2003, bought the old Byron Winery from Mondavis' in 2004 and opend the Tasting Room in 2006. He really makes wine! Gary
