I'm a bit late to the game, but here's my 2 cents:
Affluent Customers
From what I've seen so far, French wines continue to be the preferred country where (mostly) the more affluent Chinese would buy from. In terms of the…
Having visited China many, many times and being in places that serve nice wine, the China market is going to be a hard nut to crack. There are isolated pockets where wine will do well such as Shanghai, but the palates of the Chinese are different.…
Jess,
Looking to broaden my wine experiences beyond being a Sommelier and drinker. going to be in Barcalona in September and wonder if you have any insiders choices for places to visit in the area? Be happy to trade knowledge for knowledge.
Hi Jess:
The wine market in China is challenging for many reasons. China does not have a western wine tradition. Although it has its own wine industry, Chinese wines have a different flavor profile than western wines. I was served something called…
Hello:I am doing a bit of research on wine in China. More specifically, I am looking for some insights, leads, information etc. about the wine market, wine culture, wine preferences across China, but particularly in Hunan. Did you just use the word "pedagogical"? Man, that is awesome!!!
2 Picks for interesting wine experiences in Philly:

I am a foodie from Canada, living and working in Barcelona. I work at UOC where I am developing a postgraduate programme in Food Systems. We are organising a series of wine courses to be taught online (a real challenge!) in Spanish and Catalan. We are working with Sommerlier Alumni to develop these innovative and accessible courses. We are also working on an online introduction to wine culture course in English.
My own research considers models for increased public participation in global food safety standard and pedagogical models for teaching food systems analysis online. Other research interests include supply management of agricultural commodities, farm-level consequences of agri-food policy, the evolution of agriculture and taste as well as theories of power and food sovereignty.

2) Ristorante Panorama - www.pennsviewhotel.com (14 N Front St Philadelphia, PA 19106 - (215) 922-7800 ). Near Penn's Landing and Old City. Good food, and they have a wine preservation system so you can try some $$$ stuff by the glass.
Yelp also has some great suggestions: http://www.yelp.com/c/philadelphia/wine_bars .
Hi Jess, I am the coordinator of emergency management at U of T and also work at the family business, the Italian Wine Academy. We conduct educational wine tours in Italy. We go all over the world, but we started in Italy. Basically we take people to Italy and teach them about wine and viticulture at the wineries. Most of our clients are North Americans, they range from consumers to people in the trade such as restaurateurs and hoteliers. We run the company out of Toronto and Sonoma. The food security bit I was working on had to do with the resilience of the supply chain for Toronto. In simple terms we were trying to determine, given no input into the system, how many days of food inventory is in the city. Back when the SARS outbreak happened, we were very near to quarantining the entire city.
On a more cheery note, I'd love to hear more about your projects. Perhaps offline if you do not want to post too much detail here. I think you can do direct messages on this site.
Hi Jess, Impressive things you do. Love to hear more. Beeing a sommelier myself, giving lectures and writing loads of articles around the subject for the public and trade it would be interesting to be in touch.
best regards/Elke
