Larry Chandler replied to Cornelius Geary's discussion 'Alabama ABC bans Cycles Gladiator wine label, calls it porn'
The US Gov't (BATF as it was known then) once banned a label of Ch. Mouton-Rothschild for a similar reason. It later was rescinded, but the chateau had to do a new label for the US market. They do it because they can. So many people in…

Larry, Oh yes, Millburn...I am in the area often as I frequent The Wine Library and attend shows at the PaperMill Playhouse. Great town. I use Crushpad in SF as the custom-crush facility for Think Tank wines. In fact, I am back at the winery on…

People are being bombarded with emails and solicitations about wines. It's quite difficult to gain the customer's attention. Facebook and Twitter certainly have their place, but nothing beats tasting the wines and getting consumers to…

Larry,

I use Crushpad in SF as the custom-crush facility for Think Tank wines. In fact, I am back at the winery on April 2nd pouring my single-vineyard Pinot Noir at the Wine 2.0 Expo...our first-ever tasting event!
Hope to see you there.

Cheers,

Michael

Thanks for inviting me to this. It looks interesting. I haven't had much good New Mexico wine yet. We found a good bottle of Gewurztraminer and we have a bottle of that champagne that you told us about, Gruet. I will let you know how that is.

The ABC runs a program for winery personnel and it is a real good idea to take it. It not only shows you how to spot fake IDs and other ways to ferret out underage drinkers, but the mere fact that you took the course could go a long way to keeping the ABC off your back. They don't always fine you if they feel you've made a real effort to not serve anyone under 21. I took it when I worked for Fess Parker.

I'm still working for eWinery Solutions, the tech company that builds websites for wineries. Business is good, and the technology and features keep getting better. We've released a new allocation module, and have complete integration with Ship Compliant. There is wine club management software and myriad features to make online sales easy.

I do miss selling wine though. My workload is too busy to even work at a winery one day a week. But I did like doing it.

I plan on a trip to Santa Maria this fall, so perhaps we can get together and drink some good wine!

Larry, Larry: What is going on with you? Thanks for inviting me into Wine 2.0--looks very interesting and so are the people in it.

I'm still doing the KVV thing and have been toying with the idea of working up a format for a "Build Your Own Training Program." I doubt anyone would seriously buy it, but the need is unbelievable--especially since the law has been doing winery busts in Santa Barbara County. For a winery the bust can be incredibly expensive. For a TR staffer the first time up is a non-negotiable fine of $1000, two years probation, and some community service work (probably picking up trash on the freeway) for I think 30 days. I personally know three folks who have been tagged. The law has not come into KVV yet but they have done a bunch from Santa Ynez up to Cambria. Their tactics are legal but in my opinion border on unethical. Such is life.

So let me know what is going on with you.

Gary
