About Me:
I've been in Food & Beverage for over 16 years with extensive restaurant/hotel background. My fondest memories are from Le Cirque and Circo at Bellagio - what a wine list! I am currently enjoying my new digs as Director of Sales and Catering for China Grill Management in Las Vegas (China Grill, Red Square, Rumjungle, Red White & Blue at Mandalay Bay). Now I am able to expand my tastes from such knowledgable people and such amazing wine lists- pure pleasure. Who thought work could be so enjoyable!

Vienna, Prague, and Budapest- here I come! Any wine/F&B suggestions while I'm there?

Between sightseeing, shopping, wining and dining- I have a lot to cover with only 2 nights in each place! And the internet and books have sooooooooo many options- some "must" and specifics are appreciated if you have suggestions! We're staying at The Grand Vienna, The Aria in Prague, and Four Seasons in Budapest....can't wait!!

HOT in Vegas! Cooling off with some great wines

It's not exactly a challenge to find some great wines to cool off with on a typical hot summer day in Vegas. The true challenge is putting in a day's work, THEN enjoying wine. This 110+ degree heat nibble's at one's subconscience to play a little hookey. Perhaps even head to cooler climates...such as Napa or Sonoma...
Hi Ho, Hi Ho, off to work I go...to google some of my favorite wineries and imagine some wines that tantalize the taste buds.
....ahhhh....

Lucia Pinot Noir at Merriman's in Maui- doesn't get much better!

Back from Maui!

Wowie! No wonder they say that!!

After a wonderful dinner at Pacific-O with their own farm grown produce, we headed to the reknowned Merriman's at the Ritz Carlton Maui for another fabulous dinner the following night. This time, we had the pleasure of enjoying our entrees with a fabulous bottle of Gary Pison's Pinot Noir, Lucia. Check out the Lucia site for more info: http://www.luciavineyards.com/pinot.html

Enjoy if you happen to come across… Continue

Nora's Wine Bar in Summerlin (Las Vegas) 350+ wines, Enomatic system, and AMAZING Italian Cuisine Osteria Style

If/when you get past the extensive wine selections, you will be absolutely delighted with the menu and family style offerings of meats, cheeses, oils, specialty sea salts, delectable pastas, flat breads- they even incorporate wild boar into a few dishes- one of my personal faves. If you visit Las Vegas, you really must venture off the strip and try Nora's Wine Bar (not to be confused with the first Nora's- a more traditional, casual- Old school Italian) www.noraswinebar.com.
Buon Apetito!

Hello Lesley,

I am from Portugal, from Dão region, in the center north of this wonderful country, wine grower and wine maker, promoting my own wine.

Portugal has many autochthones grape varieties, red and whites.
White varieties are very interesting, with very different characters, but SYRIA also cold Códega do Larinho is fantastic, with citrons aromas of tangerine and orange.
Portugal Dão region has the most gastronomic wines: fresh, intense, elegant with very nice acidity, made with autochthonous grapes from very particularly varieties.
Just try.
I am a producer in Portuguese Dão region, and I suggest you to taste an old Dão.

Just see what Paul White Thinks about as:

“So far, Portugal has managed to remain true to its traditions, while at the same time offering up a huge range of distinctive grape varieties and unusual wine styles precisely when many of us are tiring of endless New World makeovers of French varietals.

Dao has a lot going for it in that respect: first rate grape varieties firmly rooted in granite-based ‘terroir’ that sparkles back like diamonds, all this shaped by a growing season that’s relatively gentler and longer than other Portuguese regions. Although relatively unknown and sometimes tricky to pronounce, Dao’s red wines offer consumers genuinely new and exciting tasting experiences.”

Hello Lesley:

How might the job prospects be right now in Vegas? I am an adavnced Sommelier with the court of Master Sommeliers. I was thinking of moving there for a few years. Do you have any suggestions for finding a good gig? Should I fly out and explore for a couple days? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thank you. Sincerely, Rick
