Value Alert! - 90pt Stunner from Italy for $13!

I love it when I find a great value such as this wine - the 2007 Leone de Castris Salice Salentino Riserva, especially when it's from a wine region and made from a grape varietal new to me.  I'm still very much in the "promiscuous" phase of my wine lover evolution, so I…See More

Tasting An Iconic Cali Cab At Beaulieu Vineyards

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Beaulieu Vineyard (“BV”), located in the Rutherford District, in California’s Napa Valley.  BV is one of Napa’s oldest and most iconic wineries.  Georges Latour, and his wife Fernande established it in 1900.  As legend has it, upon seeing the four acres of land they were to purchase, Fernande proclaimed ”Quel beau lieu” which translates to ”What a beautiful place“.BV has at least three claims to fame.…See More

About Me:
I’m a Wine Drinkin’ Fool! I became seriously interested in wine in the last two or three years, in large part because it’s a passion my wife and I share. We’ve bought way too much wine, and we’ve got so much to learn ( although my wife is more interested in the drinking of wine than in the “technical” aspects of learning it). My wife frequently tells me that’s “too much information” when I get excited about learning more about wine…So I've started a wine blog. I'm not sure where it's going, or how far it's going, but it’s my way of letting thoughts of wine off my mind (hey did that just rhyme – guess I’m a poet and don’t know it;-), and sharing it with family and friends.

You know the deal; the more some folks learn about a topic, the more shortcuts/slang/acronyms/initials/technical jargon can be tossed around.  I’m here to help you understand those sometimes mysterious words and phrases, thus - Wine Words Demystified!

This week’s word/phrase is Estate-bottled

#ChardDay Comparo – Four Chardonnays;One Winner!

In honor of the third annual Chardonnay Day (#ChardDay) tasting, I decided to host a small impromptu gathering of some of my wino friends to taste what turned out to be four bottles of Chardonnay.  I say turned out to be four bottles because, ostensibly, we were going to taste three bottles of Chardonnay I received as media samples.  However, as the wine and the conversation flowed, it became apparent, the five of us were going to need another…

What Wines Go Best With Oysters?

Well it turns out there’s a competition for that!  The most recent edition was the 18th Annual 2012 Pacific Coast Oyster Competition.  Are you kidding me?  They’ve done this 17 times before this year and I just found out?!;-)

Here’s what the website says…

Traditionally, restaurateurs have looked to France for wines like…
