When you get to the Ohio River Valley, you need to stop by Valley Vineyards in Morrow. Lots of choices and good wines like their Cab Franc Rose and my favorite is their Cab Franc or Reserve Cab Sauv. Then take a trip to Ripley and see Kinkead Ridge…

Having grown up in the midwest, I followed my passion for wine to Oregon’s Willamette Valley. Always the explorer seeking to learn more, I have travelled around the United States, through France, Spain, and Italy. I hold the Advanced certification from the Wine & Spirits Education Trust, am certified as a Spanish Wine Educator, and am pursuing my sommelier credentials with the Court of Master Sommeliers. I write about white wines in the Pacific Northwest on my site Northwest Whites (www.nwwhites.com). You can also read about my experiences in wine, food, and travel on my personal website, RyanReichert.com.

Portugal Dão region has the most gastronomic wines: fresh, intense, elegant with very nice acidity, made with autochthonous grapes from very particularly varieties.
Just try.
I am a producer in Portuguese Dão region, and I suggest you to taste an old Dão.
Just see what Paul White Thinks about as:
“So far, Portugal has managed to remain true to its traditions, while at the same time offering up a huge range of distinctive grape varieties and unusual wine styles precisely when many of us are tiring of endless New World makeovers of French varietals.
Dao has a lot going for it in that respect: first rate grape varieties firmly rooted in granite-based ‘terroir’ that sparkles back like diamonds, all this shaped by a growing season that’s relatively gentler and longer than other Portuguese regions. Although relatively unknown and sometimes tricky to pronounce, Dao’s red wines offer consumers genuinely new and exciting tasting experiences.”

Then take a trip to Ripley and see Kinkead Ridge and Meranda-Nixon wineries. Excellent stuff with Kinkead's 2008 Viognier/Rousanne as my fav in white although the Revelation White has garnered more attention for awards. Seth Meranda has just released his Cab Franc and I can't get enough of that. He makes an American Chard that is pretty darn good and try his Catawba. Visit Harmony Hill in Bethel as well. Let me know when you come down here and I can guide you further.
