- 3 years ago, I was a single, condo-living uptown girl, frequenting happy hour in 4 inch heels, and hanging with my girlfriends by Lake Calhoun. Then I met Aaron, my passionate, ambitious, jack-of-all trades husband who told me on our first date that his longtime dream was to start a vineyard. Now as newlyweds, we are embarking on the adventure of starting a Minnesota vineyard. With just under 2000 grapevines in the ground and our two spirited Great Dane puppies running us ragged, our adventure has only begun. My blog chronicles events such as: the process of turning our vines into wine, rehabbing our charming old chicken coop into an eventual tasting room while jumping through hoops to get a winery license, my quest to win a blue ribbon for our gigantic garden zucchinis, achieveing the skills of canning, driving a tractor, taming 200 lbs worth of dog, my efforts at maintaining a polished image despite showing up at my corporate job with dirt under my fingernails and dog poop on my shoe, overcoming the obstacles of starting a family wine business while getting ready to start a family...eventually. And the triumphs and retreats we encounter just living the farm life.

In this world of grapegrowing, I hear and read new words relating to wine often and thought I'd share some wine terminology with you here periodically. The next time you are out to dinner with friends, or winery-ing and get a chance to talk to the winemaker, or just want to practice rolling your 'r's in French, you can use it in context and sound like a legitimate wine-o (if you aren't one already).
