Escape from the crowds and traffic of the main road for a spell and join us on Diamond Mountain. As you leave the valley floor you enter a property which many describe as "early Californian". The beauty is second only to the quality of the wine and the personalized attention you will receive. We love sharing our award winning wines which are unique, single-vineyard bottlings that are rarely available in the marketplace. Please call us to schedule your visit to join us on the patio or a special cave tasting and experience wine country in its true essence.
Established in 1990: Von Strasser Winery was founded in 1990 by Rudy and Rita von Strasser. Set in the hills west of Calistoga, in the middle of Napa Valley's famous Diamond Mountain District, lays an estate steeped in history. Originally planted to wine grapes in the 1880's by Napa's earliest settlers, here Rudy and Rita have set down their own roots. It is more than just a winery; it is a homestead - a place to raise their family, their grapes & create their award winning von Strasser wines.
Rudy earned his first degree in agriculture at the University of New Hampshire. An interest in apple farming & hard cider production brought him to California & eventually led him to enroll in the famed Enology program at UC Davis. After graduating in 1985, Rudy arranged an internship at Chateau Lafite-Rothschild, where he was the first Californian to work in the famous Chateau. Upon returning to Napa, Rudy honed his skills as the Enologist at Trefethen Winery & then as Assistant Winemaker at Newton Vineyards.
