Congratulations to Kahleen Nowak, our 1,000th friend! Wouldn’t you know that our 1,000th friend would end up being be right in our own town? Kahleen is the owner of Divine Affair in Healdsburg. I got to know Kahleen through a little Q and A session and found out a little bit more about her.
Kahleen, what brought you to Healdsburg?
I have been in Healdsburg for five years now! Yikes, where has the time gone! I was drawn to Healdsburg…(after many years of absence…from my days of being a teenager with friends that grew up here. We were all ag kids. I remember Healdsburg, when there were more cows….and less tourists. )
What brought you to Sonoma County?
I am a native of Sonoma County, raised in Petaluma. I met friends for a bite and was blow away by the charm and quaintness of Healdsburg, how much of its identity is alive and well as progress and time has passed. At the time I was looking for a location for my business …the rest is history. Sonoma County is truly my home. I have spent time abroad, out of state, and around the bay area. We are spoiled …thick as thieves with as much as this county has to offer. Travel in any which direction, the views and territory, the food production and wines, the people….locals and visitors alike…we are blessed.
What I enjoy best is playing tour guide to friends who come to visit. Rediscovering and getting lost in our own backyard. One does not need to go far to indulge!
Tell us a little bit about what you do
Divine Affair
I am the chef/owner of A Divine Affair, in downtown Healdsburg. A quaint little bistro and wine bar tucked inside a 100 year old brick building, that I remodeled 3.5 years ago.
We feature a seasonal and locally balanced menu, that includes a few heritage recipes of my Ukrainian grandmother. (Perogi and Borscht. )We also feature limited production wines and local beer. I am a very proud supporter of Sonoma County Wines!
I have a wonderful job that allows me the ample opportunity to taste and drink and enjoy some of the finest wines produced. I think the basis behind wine is that that is behind the pleasure of food. Sharing and bringing people together. Celebrations or simple meals, the culture of enriching our daily lives and enjoying the fruits of so many hands of labor….yeah again we are spoiled rotten here!
Do you drink wine and if so what kind of wine do you typically drink?
My taste in wine is like that of music and food. All so varies on the mood, the season, the weather….I am left of center…love Syrah, Cab Franc, Malbec, Sangiovese too!…all relative to the meal for consumption….kinda like shoes….hard to choose just one. And yet it is timeless. It transcends age, gender, ..etc. It is meant to be savored, enjoyed, and shared.
In honor of Kahleen and all our Facebook friends we are offering complimentary shipping on any order of 3 bottles or more. Mix and match any wine from our Wine Shop, including library wines. Visit our website
