Wine 2.0

Yes it's true Wine World 2.0: we are two of the many, many applicants for Murphy-Goode's Really Good Job. Before you're tempted to stop reading, allow me to be the first to admit that we're even sick of hearing about all of this. Tara and I chuckled to ourselves when we confessed that we haven't worked this hard for something since our final exams days in college, which were (ahem) some years ago. It was recently revealed that both of us are sleeping with our laptops beneath our beds, constantly updating, checking, and writing down ideas. Needless to say, we are driving both our husbands a little nuts. They've always been supportive of us pursuing this goal but I think at this point they'd both be ecstatic to see us shipped off and starting the job tomorrow.

How can we explain it?

It goes something like this: one day you're cruising along, living your life, working your job (a job you love by the way), convinced that you're doing exactly what your meant to be doing in this life. Then suddenly, out of nowhere, you hear about this other thing; this thing that totally doesn't make any sense to pursue given your current life but that intrigues you nonetheless. But this thing remains small...and insignificant...and unattainable. "Too far fetched," you say, "Completely ridiculous to even consider."

To consider what? Dropping everything you know and trying out something new? Something exciting? Something different? Perhaps something that even scares you a bit?

Well..."maybe it's worth considering," you begin to wonder.

So then the question becomes why? Why pick everything you kn/own and move? For what? For whom? And most importantly why? Why would you be willing to do it?

Well, if we had to put it down in writing, at this very moment, it would go something like this:

We want A Really Good Job so we can...

* work on building and creating something together as sisters and challenge one another as a team
* see a wine being born from vine and harvest to production
* become active in a new community with (homemade) bake sales and volunteer opportunities
* cruise thrift shops for cutesy aprons and vintage place settings for future dinner parties we're dreaming up
* arrange fundraisers and promotions with local farms and businesses
* be a part of a movement by promoting a product we believe in
* meet and introduce ourselves to our fellow neighbors with a good 'ole fashioned block party
* skip rocks and camp along the banks of the Russian River
* dance and tell ghost stories in the Redwoods
* organize Murphy-Goode flag-football games and Super Bowl parties
* create gift baskets and arrange tours for guests visiting the valley
* work with local artists when designing the "Really Goode" wine label for the commemorative bottle
* grow as individuals away from our husbands only to bring them back into the fold (and fall back in love) in beautiful, picturesque wine country
* eat well, drink well, and be well
* get lost in the aisles of the farmers markets and in the shelves of the local library
* shop for quirky antiques and collectibles to please and impress our mother-in-laws with
* get our bikes and bodies familiar with the great outdoors
* finally reenact one of Lucille Ball's greatest moments
* have an opportunity to share some of our greatest moments and adventures in life with all of you
* and so on and so forth...

We began this journey with the dream, "oh, wouldn't it be sweet if we could get this amazing job, and finally relocate our families together at last, and live in this incredibly charming life in a lovely little town in wine country?" But then that "little dream" grew into a giant thought, one that began to snowball into something so much bigger than either of us could imagine, and we've eventually found that us and everyone else we know has sampled the kool-aid and thinks, "Yes, Ali and Tara! This is the job for you!" That's basically how it happened. That's how we went from thinking we were clearly out of our minds and our league applying for this job into thinking that it's something we can't live without--rather, it is our destiny as crazy as that sounds, and believe us, it feels crazy even saying it. We both have successful careers;both love the cities and men we've committed to; our lives are already, in essence, "complete."

But you know when you get that feeling in the pit of your stomach? That voice that whispers in your head, "pssst...you were made for this job" (or at least that's what it whispers to us). Well, it's like that. It's that voice that tells us, "keep going, you're doing it, you're almost there." I guess when it comes down to it, it just feels right.

In response to this great effort on our behalf to inform the public of our existence and of our desire to get this job, there is now a big group of fans, friends, and supporters (some old, some new) helping us chase down this dream. We are so grateful for your kind words, your happy thoughts and your good vibes. Now worries, Friends: we're picking up what you're putting down. We can hear you. We can feel you. We can see the jumps in our votes, and more importantly, we can sense the building energy around us. It's pretty great and we are enjoying riding this wave and having you all along with us.

So what do you say Sonoma County and Wine 2.0 World? What about you, Murphy-Goode? ARE WE IN? If yes please vote and pass the word along. You know the drill.

Sistahs, you got our vote... whoops, we still have to go through committee for this...

But hey, thanks for the heartfelt post, and whether you "make it" or not, we're thrilled that you've been enjoying a taste of the goode life!
